Moong Dal Soup (Pesara Kattu)


Ingredients:
  • Moong Dal/Pesara Pappu/Yellow split dal – 1/2 cup
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Green chillies – 4 no’s, medium size, chopped
  • Ginger – 1 inch piece, chopped
  • Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
  • Curry Leaves – 2 sprigs
  • Salt – to taste
For Talimpu/Tadka
  • Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Jeera – 1/4 tsp
  • Asafoetida/Hing – 1-2 pinches
  • Oil/ghee – 1 tsp
Method of preparation:
  1. Wash and pressure cook the dal with 2 cups of water for 2-3 whistles.
  2. Mash the dal and add a cup of water.
  3. Add the chopped, green chillies, ginger, turmeric powder and salt.
  4. Boil the dal for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Take a pan for seasoning and heat oil in it.
  6. Add mustard seeds, jeera, hing and curry leaves.
  7. Pour it in the dal and mix well. Allow it to boil for 5 minutes.
  8. Switch it off and once its not very hot add lemon juice and mix well.
  9. Serve as a soup/rasam with rice.
